We believe in creating a welcoming space where everyone can encounter God.

It’s hard to believe we have reached the last Sunday in July, and August is right around the corner. As time seems to be speeding by so quickly, Pastor Nathan’s message this week was very timely. He began by reminding us how important praise and worship are and the importance of speaking God’s Word. Psalm 107:2 states, “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy.” Pastor Nathan shared what God spoke to Him as He brought a matter before Him in prayer. Sometimes we are waiting for God to do something, but God is waiting for us to say something! What is the typical response to problems that arise. Most of us will complain about the problem, and as we do so, the problem gets bigger and bigger. Worse yet, if we open our mouth to gossip about the problem, we are using the language of hell. Mark 11:23 gives us Heaven’s response. “For verily I say unto you, that whosoever shall say unto this mountain, be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith.” If we need God to do something, He requires that we open our mouth to speak, pray, or say something.
The things we need are small compared to our great God and are easily accomplished, but we have our part. John Wesley said it this way. “It seems that God is limited by our prayer life – that He can do nothing for humanity unless someone asks Him.” Prayer is an important part of our Christian life. Praying and praising actually represent our authority here on earth. According to Philippians 2:13, God works through His people, and He does it by faith. Pastor Nathan pointed out that Moses prayed quite an eloquent prayer at the Red Sea; however, God’s response was a bit surprising. “And the Lord said to Moses, “Why do you cry to Me?” (Exodus 14:1) It seems that Moses forgot that he carried the anointing. He carried God’s staff. God told him to stop asking and loose the anointing. It was Moses who had to lift the rod and stretch out his hand. Jesus said we can speak to mountains (impossible things). Mountains represent problems. Worrying and complaining can make a mountain out of a molehill. Worse yet, a single mountain can turn into a mountain range by our careless words.
The very thing that we complain about will be what the devil uses to defeat us. Instead, we must stand in faith. We must open our mouths and tell the devil what to do. We must run him off our property because we have authority, and we have what we say. God can’t do anything unless we move our mouth. He is waiting for us to say something. Hebrews 10:23 tells us to “hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.” Our confession must agree with God’s Word, the same way in which Jesus defeated the devil with “it is written.” Hold fast means we keep saying it. We do not waver, for God is faithful. Be faithful to continually speak in the face of opposition from the devil. Instead of talking about the problem, speak God’s Word. If we speak God’s Word long enough, our voice will begin to sound just like Jesus! If you don’t speak, things will not change. You might ask, what do I say? Here’s Pastor Nathan’s starting point! Devil, I’m tired of your junk! How dare you take up my time. How dare you steal my joy. Shut your mouth. You are under my feet! A great beginning, but then you must find the promises in God’s Word that fit your situation and begin to speak to the mountain until it moves! God wants to hear your voice!
