Do you find delight in doing God’s will? Do you get excited about obeying God? Do you find it a pleasure to serve Him, or do you serve just out of obligation? Today Pastor Nathan encouraged us to find delight in being a part of God’s Kingdom. King David penned these words in Psalm 40, verse 8. “I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.” Delight can be defined as the highest satisfaction, a joyful eagerness, or a deep sense of satisfaction. When we have become a part of God’s family, we come to the realization that we did not choose God; He chose us! (John 15:16)
Pastor Nathan shared that at the age of 21 he came to the realization that all the things the world offers can never satisfy us. Although the world can give us temporary pleasure, it eventually fades; but when we are at our lowest, the Holy Spirit can reach us. He only needs a very small window to enter in and reach our heart. When all we taste is the world, life quickly becomes bitter. God invites us to taste and see how good He is! (Psalm 34:8) Once we have tasted His goodness, we will want to keep coming back over and over again because we love Him so much.
Our starting point is receiving the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior. Our sins are forgiven by His precious blood, and we are born again, but this is only the beginning. Ezekiel 36:26-27 speaks about the old stony heart being replaced with a new heart, a heart of flesh, but once again, this is only the beginning. Verse 27 goes on to speak of “a new spirit. “And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them.” The Message Translation says, “I’ll put my Spirit in you and make it possible for you to do what I tell you and live by my commands.”
If it seems that you are lacking the desire or the power of God in your life, consider the place the Holy Spirit desires to have because you were never meant to serve God on your own. The Holy Spirit was sent to dwell within us. In fact, the whole plan of redemption is about God living inside us. The world can never satisfy you. Your heart must be changed, and then you must allow the Holy Spirit to fill you.
Are you satisfied with your life? Do you want more of God? If your answer is yes, that is a good thing! There is always more of God, but if you want more, you will have to go after it. The Holy spirit is always drawing us closer, but we must learn to yield to Him, to be led by Him, and obey Him. How quickly this life fades, but this is not our true home. The Holy Spirit gives us a glimpse of Heaven, and once you have tasted of the goodness of God, you will never look back!
II Corinthians 5:1-5 MSG – For instance, we know that when these bodies of ours are taken down like tents and folded away, they will be replaced by resurrection bodies in heaven—God-made, not handmade—and we’ll never have to relocate our “tents” again. Sometimes we can hardly wait to move—and so we cry out in frustration. Compared to what’s coming, living conditions around here seem like a stopover in an unfurnished shack, and we’re tired of it! We’ve been given a glimpse of the real thing, our true home, our resurrection bodies! The Spirit of God whets our appetite by giving us a taste of what’s ahead. He puts a little of heaven in our hearts so that we’ll never settle for less.
